JOB SUMMARY

The Entry-Level Purchasing Specialist is responsible for acquiring a variety of metal components, electro-mechanical components, electronic materials, maintenance supplies, repair services, and equipment. This role plays a crucial part in the efficiency of manufacturing operations and management of budgetary constraints. Other supportive duties may be assigned as needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Include but are not limited to:

Work collaboratively with user departments to understand purchasing needs and select suitable vendors/suppliers.
Analyze inventory levels, production planning, and market forecasts to proactively determine manufacturing requirements.
Prepare detailed specifications for bids and evaluate equipment and commodity specifications.
Foster strong working relationships with both internal teams and external partners.
Maintain ongoing communication with manufacturing, quality, marketing, and engineering to align purchasing with production demands.
Gather product and pricing details from vendors and create purchase requisitions.
Investigate new supply sources and assess material offerings.
Review pricing, delivery schedules, and specifications to ensure maximum value for purchases.
Provide technical insights related to the procurement of various components and materials.
Maintain accurate purchasing logs, reports, and vendor contact lists.
Support interdepartmental functions to enhance customer service.
Assist with training and onboarding of new hires as needed.
Adhere to established procedures and safety protocols to ensure compliance with legal standards.
Follow safe work practices and utilize personal protective equipment.
Carry out additional tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants should have an Associate's degree in Business Administration, Industrial Technology, or a related field, along with 3 years of relevant purchasing experience, especially with electro-mechanical assembly components. Additional certifications such as CPIM and CSCP, as well as international purchasing experience, are preferred.

Familiarity with purchasing methods, legal requirements, and regulations.
Understanding of pricing strategies and market practices.
Knowledge of receiving materials and invoicing processes.
Ability to interpret specifications for diverse components and commodities.
Skill in evaluating potential vendors and their financial and delivery capabilities.
Competency in performing mathematical calculations.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Capable of maintaining organized records and reports.
Proficient with office equipment and software, including Microsoft Office and purchasing platforms.
Able to build effective relationships with colleagues and suppliers.
Willingness to work overtime and weekends, as necessary.
Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.

Physical Requirements

Essential physical demands include the ability to lift and handle items up to 50 pounds on occasion, along with periods of sitting, standing, walking, and bending. The position may involve working in diverse indoor/outdoor environments and requires visual acuity, speech, and hearing, as well as the manual dexterity necessary to operate office equipment and materials.
