Procurement & Inventory Specialist - Prospect Lake Clean Water Center

Receives, stores, and issues stock items and performs various related administrative tasks including the procurement of supplies and materials by preparing informal bid specifications, obtaining competitive quotations from vendors, analyzing responses to determine the most responsive vendor. Initiates purchase request; confers with employees in the City’s Procurement Department, department officials, vendors concerning purchasing requests, billing, and contract renewals and extensions. Performs daily and special inventories as directed.

NOTE: This position will primarily report to the Prospect Lake Clean Water Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida: A new state-of-the-art, membrane-based potable water treatment facility, being developed via a 30-year public-private partnership between the City of Fort Lauderdale, IDE Technologies, and Ridgewood Infrastructure. Designed to replace the nearly 70-year-old Fiveash plant, it will draw water from the Biscayne Aquifer and has a capacity of 50 million gallons per day. The plant will combine nanofiltration (treating about 70% of flow) and ion-exchange (the remaining 30%) to deliver clear, high-quality potable water while minimizing raw water losses and energy use.

In accordance with Article 24 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Fort Lauderdale and Teamsters Local Union 769, for posting purposes this open-competitive job posting shall be considered as a simultaneous internal and external posting (it is open to both internal City employees and external applicants).

Essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation.   • Participates in receiving, storing and issuing of all items of supply and equipment in the inventory storeroom.
  • Prepares bids specifications, gets quotes and makes purchases from most competitive vendors
  • Receives, verifies and enters all requisitions in the inventory system software. Verifies all delivery receipts against issued purchase orders
  • Inspects goods received to insure in compliance with procurement specifications and quantity ordered
  • Operates an electric, gas- or diesel-powered forklift in the warehousing of palletized stock or in the distribution of materials assigned
  • Places bulk stock on pallets in proper pallet pattern, Ensues the same quantity in each tier, row and pallet
  • Selects or directs the selection of items by stock number, classification and quantity for issue in accordance with approved requisitions
  • Performs daily and special inventories as directed
  • Trains team members in warehouse safety and good housekeeping practices
  • Performs related work as required

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Have successfully graduated from a standard high school or trade school or possess an acceptable G.E.D. certificate from a recognized issuing agency
  • Must possess at least one (1) year of experience in receiving, storing, and inventory control related to construction materials and equipment
  • Will be required to respond to off-duty emergency call-ins in a 24-hour operation

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience operating an electric, gas, or diesel-powered forklift
  • Prior experience working for a government entity
  • Intermediate or higher proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel

PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The position involves medium physical demands, such as exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Ability to lift, stoop, bend, crawl, kneel and climb ladders up to 10 feet in performing a variety of job-related tasks.
