Position Summary

The Senior Sourcing Specialist is responsible for developing supplier relationships and leveraging commodity expertise to source products and services in alignment with business requirements, objectives and consistent with Swagelok’s values. Manage and demonstrate proficiency in the development and implementation of major sourcing strategies. This will include competency in all aspects of the Strategic Sourcing Methodology.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overall supplier management for a group of commodities or suppliers including the establishment of blanket orders (negotiation of pricing, lot size, lead-time, and other business terms) with process capable suppliers to enable effective and efficient supply replenishment, which satisfy internal customer requirements and enable on-time fulfillment of customer orders.
  • Maintain exceptional relationships with suppliers while aggressively resolving supplier performance/capability issues to ensure alignment with Swagelok expectations.
  • Lead the development of sourcing strategies and supplier selection decisions based on a solid understanding of, and the ability to deploy, the strategic sourcing methodology.
  • Maintains critical supplier system data such as lead times, pricing and purchase order maintenance and approval.
  • Utilize a basic understanding of legal concepts related to supply contracts and develop a more thorough understanding of Swagelok’s position regarding these concepts to gain management’s confidence in the ability to lead most aspects of the negotiation process for medium to high impact negotiations, including strategy planning and negotiation execution.
  • Develop thorough expertise for assigned spend categories. Understand market trends and conditions and availability of capable suppliers.
  • Manage major part transitions from incumbent to new suppliers as required while achieving inventory, production operations, and fulfillment strategy objectives. Provide regular progress reports on the implementation of sourcing strategies.
  • Effectively represent Swagelok when interfacing with other companies.
  • Develop and implement supplier risk management strategies in alignment with the Sourcing Risk Management matrix.
  • Manage, as needed, the supplier scheduling function for problem suppliers, new suppliers, or during transition between suppliers.
  • Represent Global Sourcing on new product development teams while driving the maximum utilization of preferred suppliers.
  • Lead the development and implementation of special projects to enhance the performance of the department.
  • Evaluate potential suppliers by assessing the facilities, procedures, business systems, personnel, quality, financial, delivery, and manufacturing capabilities to ensure alignment with Swagelok expectations
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (purchasing, marketing, business, engineering, etc.) and 7 years relevant work experience
  • Strong computer skills and a solid understanding of MRP/business systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Well-developed project management skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively deploy all sourcing related policies, procedures, and methodologies.
  • Advanced negotiation skills and an understanding of legal concepts and Swagelok’s position on them.
  • Escalates all legal matters and significant business issues to management for guidance and resolution.
  • Significant development of a wide range of sourcing related skills and knowledge, including a solid understanding of, and the ability to deploy, the strategic sourcing methodology.
  • Capable of successfully managing significant sourcing projects with limited management involvement.

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements

  • Working conditions associated with normal office environment.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment (e.g., computer, telephone, copier, printer, etc.).
  • Ability to effectively communicate in both small and large groups and settings.
  • Ability to traverse between multiple locations in Ohio and Pennsylvania as needed.
  • Occasional domestic and/or international travel may be required.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
