Director of Purchasing

A retail/distribution company based in Maryland is looking to hire a Director of Purchasing to lead the Procurement functions of their operations. Reporting to the President, this person will manage a spend of $140 million and oversee a small team. Key responsibilities include the following:

  • Establish and maintain best practices for all procurement functions throughout the organization
  • Manage large purchasing budgets and vendor contracts
  • Lead vendor negotiations regarding pricing, payment terms, rebates, and promotional programs
  • Manage relationships with key vendors and stakeholders
  • Supervise, motivate, and lead a team of 3 buyers
  • Manage day to day purchasing of goods
  • Deliver cost-savings through rebates and pricing discounts
  • Work closely with distribution and logistics teams to ensure inventory accuracy
  • Minimize obsolete and slow-moving inventory


The Director of Purchasing must possess the following:

  • 10+ years of purchasing experience
  • 5+ years of management experience including hiring, firing, training, and coaching
  • Excellent vendor management and negotiation experience
  • Experience with industrial products required
  • Excellent business acumen
