Duties & Responsibilities
The Director of Procurement is a leadership position responsible for managing and optimizing the full scope of supply chain functions, including procurement across a multi-site healthcare organization. This role plays a critical part in aligning supply chain operations with the organization's clinical and financial objectives to ensure cost-effectiveness, service continuity, and patient care excellence. The Director will lead cross-functional efforts to standardize procedures, implement best practices, and enhance supply chain visibility and responsiveness. With a strong focus on operational execution, this individual will be accountable for process efficiency, vendor performance, and team leadership within a fast-paced and dynamic healthcare environment.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Strategic Planning:
- Develop and implement a robust, organization-wide supply chain operations strategy aligned with institutional goals and evolving healthcare demands
- Drive enterprise-wide standardization of supply chain policies, procedures, and workflows to promote efficiency and regulatory compliance
- Evaluate and recommend supply chain technologies and system upgrades that improve visibility, integration, and end-to-end operational performance
- Identify strategic improvement initiatives to enhance supply chain service delivery, reduce operational costs, and improve stakeholder satisfaction
- Establish a framework for monitoring, benchmarking, and reporting on departmental KPIs aligned with long-term goals
- Operational Performance
- Lead the day-to-day operations of procurement, sourcing and supplier relationship management
- Support departmental budgeting processes, helping to monitor costs and allocate resources in line with organizational priorities
- Collaborate with clinical, administrative, and financial departments to ensure timely and efficient delivery of products and services
- Develop and deliver regular executive briefings to senior leadership, providing insights on operational performance, risks, and strategic opportunities
- Monitor supplier performance, mitigate risks, and resolve operational issues to maintain consistent supply and service continuity
- Monitor quality control and ensure all procurement documents, purchase orders, and contracts are accurately maintained and auditable in internal systems
- Continuously assess and improve departmental processes using data analytics, workflow optimization tools, and feedback from internal stakeholders
- Develop and deliver regular executive briefings to senior leadership, providing insights on supply chain performance, risk mitigation, and strategic opportunities
- Perform related duties as required to support departmental and organizational objective
- Staff Development
- Lead, teach, and manage a diverse team of supply chain professionals, including contract analysts and operational staff
- Foster a high-performance culture grounded in accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement
- Implement structured training and development programs to enhance team skills and build internal capacity for supply chain leadership
- Promote collaboration and effective communication across all levels of the organization
- Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide feedback, and support career goals for team members
- Financial Management
- Monitor departmental budgets, ensuring effective cost control and resource allocation aligned with organizational priorities
- Track and report financial metrics such as procurement cycle times, and cost savings from process improvements
- Collaborate with finance to analyze trends, forecast expenses, and support capital planning efforts related to supply chain infrastructure
- Develop and implement cost-saving initiatives while maintaining high standards for quality, compliance, and service
- Perform other duties as needed
Minimum Qualifications
1. Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Computer Science,
Management or other related discipline from an accredited college or university; and six (6) years of satisfactory,
full-time paid responsible experience in information processing, program management, systems development or
related activity in a large governmental agency, hospital or health care facility, or hospital-related business firm,
three (3) years of which must have been in a managerial capacity; or
2. Master's degree from an accredited college or university in disciplines, as listed in "1" above, and five (5) years of
experience, as described in #2 above, one (1) year of which must have been in a managerial capacity; or
3. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Strong foundation in supply chain operations with a track record of managing complex procurements within a healthcare or large-scale organization.
- Hands-on leader who can balance strategic planning with operational execution, while fostering a culture of service excellence and accountability.
- Experience implementing digital tools and platforms that improve supply chain visibility and responsiveness.
- Highly organized, metrics-driven, and capable of effectively communicating performance updates and operational needs to internal stakeholders and senior leadership
