Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Director of Procurement to build and lead the procurement function for a rapidly growing organization in the power generation sector. This individual will be responsible for creating procurement strategy from the ground up, establishing best-in-class processes, and driving value through strategic sourcing, vendor partnerships, and disciplined spend management.
This is a high-impact, leadership role ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and has deep experience procuring equipment, services, and materials within the power generation or energy infrastructure markets.
Key Responsibilities
Establish and lead the end-to-end procurement function, including policies, procedures, and governance
Design and implement a formal RFP/RFQ/RFI process, including bid evaluation and award recommendations
Lead vendor selection, negotiation, and contract strategy, ensuring optimal cost, quality, and deliver
Develop and execute strategic sourcing initiatives across major spend categories (equipment, EPC services, fuel-related services, O&M, logistics, etc.)
Build strong supplier relationships while maintaining competitive tension and performance accountability
Partner cross-functionally with engineering, construction, finance, legal, and operations teams
Implement supplier performance metrics and continuous improvement initiatives
Support project-based procurement for new power generation assets and infrastructure development
Identify cost-saving opportunities and manage procurement risk
Scale procurement capabilities to support rapid company growth
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field (MBA or advanced degree a plus)
10+ years of progressive procurement or strategic sourcing experience
Proven experience in power generation, energy, utilities, or large-scale infrastructure projects
Demonstrated success building procurement functions or significantly improving procurement operations
Strong experience with RFP development, vendor analysis, and complex negotiations
Excellent business judgment with the ability to balance speed, cost, and risk
Comfortable operating in a startup or high-growth environment
Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
Preferred Experience
Procurement experience supporting power plants (gas, nuclear, renewable, or hybrid)
Experience sourcing large capital equipment and EPC services
Familiarity with Texas energy markets and regulatory environment
Experience working with remote and cross-functional teams
