Director of Inventory and Logistics
Insight GlobalA client of Insight Global is seeking a Director of Inventory and Logistics. This individual will be responsible for enterprise-wide receiving, inventory management/warehousing, and shipping operations across five manufacturing sites. This role will set the strategy and drive execution to ensure material availability for production while optimizing inventory levels, working capital, and operational efficiency.
This individual will lead a team of managers/sr. managers and a growing organization of 500–1,000 employees. They will closely partner with operations, production, procurement, engineering, and quality to deliver step-change improvements in performance. The Director is a critical member of the Operations leadership team, acting as the Supply Chain business partner to the SVP of Operations and driving step-change improvements in performance. The role emphasizes disciplined business processes, production planning, lean principles, and the development of high-performing teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead receiving, warehousing, inventory control, and outbound shipping operations across all sites
- Ensure timely and accurate material flow to meet production schedules
- Optimize inventory levels, planning parameters, and re-order points to reduce excess and obsolescence
- Oversee inventory accuracy, cycle counts, and year-end counts within SAP
- Drive continuous improvement using lean manufacturing and strong business processes
- Develop talent and build a high-performing leadership team across all functions
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, or a related field or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
- Preferred: Master’s degree or certifications such as APICS CPIM, CSCP, or Six Sigma.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- 10-15 years of experience in materials management, supply chain, or manufacturing operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of inventory control, warehousing, and production planning processes.
- Working knowledge of SAP with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (especially Excel).
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership and team development capabilities.
- Effective communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
Essential Mental and Physical Abilities:
This role requires strategic thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to lead teams and manage
complex supply chain operations. The Director must be able to make data-driven decisions and adapt to changing production demands along with seeing the big picture and using KPIs to identify gaps before they jeopardize operational performance.

Work Environment:
The position is primarily office-based with regular interaction on the manufacturing floor and frequent travel to supplier sites.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Occasional lifting of materials or equipment up to 25 lbs.
- Frequent visits to manufacturing and warehouse sites with exposure to seasonal temperatures, dust, and industrial noise.
- Ability to travel frequently for site visits, logistics coordination and process improvement.
