POSITION SUMMARY
DEC is seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager to lead procurement and purchasing activities for a data center construction project in Ohio. This role is responsible for managing material and equipment procurement, subcontract purchasing support, vendor coordination, and cost and schedule alignment within a fast-paced EPC project environment.
The Purchasing Manager will work closely with Project Management, Engineering, Construction, and Finance teams to ensure materials and services are procured efficiently, competitively, and in accordance with project schedules and contractual requirements. This role is critical to maintaining cost control, supply chain reliability, and on-time project execution.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in construction or industrial procurement, excellent negotiation skills, and a deep understanding of EPC supply chain dynamics.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Procurement & Purchasing
- Manage end-to-end purchasing activities for materials, equipment, and services required for the project.
- Issue RFQs/RFPs, evaluate bids, and support vendor selection in alignment with project requirements.
- Negotiate pricing, commercial terms, delivery schedules, and payment conditions with suppliers.
- Prepare and issue purchase orders in accordance with company policies and project controls.
Vendor & Supplier Management
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key vendors and suppliers.
- Monitor supplier performance related to cost, quality, and delivery timelines.
- Resolve procurement-related issues, shortages, or delays in coordination with project teams.
Schedule & Cost Alignment
- Coordinate procurement activities with project schedules to support construction sequencing.
- Track lead times and proactively flag potential supply chain risks or impacts.
- Support cost control efforts through competitive sourcing and value-driven procurement strategies.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Engineering to align technical specifications with procurement packages.
- Coordinate with Construction and Site Teams to confirm material requirements and delivery logistics.
- Partner with Finance to support budget tracking, invoicing, and payment processes.
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure procurement activities comply with contractual obligations, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate procurement records, logs, and documentation.
- Support audits, reporting, and closeout documentation related to purchasing activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
- Background in supply chain management, construction management, engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in purchasing or procurement within construction, industrial, or EPC environments.
- Experience supporting data center, mission-critical, or large-scale industrial projects is strongly preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of construction materials, equipment, and supply chain processes.
- Proven negotiation and vendor management skills.
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and technical procurement requirements.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.
Certifications (Preferred)
- Supply chain or procurement certifications (e.g., CPSM, PMP) are an asset.
- Proficiency with ERP or procurement systems and Excel-based reporting tools.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to work on active construction sites.
