This exciting role focuses on advancing the Economics and Science products and services within the Fee domain, specializing in supply chain systems and fees. By applying economic principles, you will identify causal relationships between Amazon, Sellers, and Customers. As a senior scientist, you will play a critical role in advising Amazon leadership on pricing strategies.

You will be responsible for developing scalable, repeatable models that support optimal pricing and policy in the two-sided marketplace, which is integral to Amazon's success. The pricing mechanisms for our services are intricate, necessitating collaboration with various scientific and technological teams across Amazon, including Advertising, Supply Chain, Operations, Prime, Consumer Pricing, and Finance.

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Economist to deepen our understanding of seller economics, enhance our capability to assess the causal impact of fees, and collaborate with partner teams to implement effective pricing policy changes. Your role will involve guiding scientists in crafting econometric models to influence our global fee pricing structure. You will lead the development of causal models that isolate the effects of fee and policy changes from other business actions, employing experiments when feasible and utilizing observational data when necessary.

Key Job Responsibilities

Demonstrate extensive knowledge of Economics and structural econometrics, particularly in practical, policy-relevant contexts. Exhibit strong collaboration skills and a proven track record in leading large, ambiguous projects to deliver results. Work closely with Economists, Data/Applied Scientists, Strategy Analysts, Data Engineers, and Product Leads to integrate economic insights into policy and systems development. Experience with seller supply chain systems is advantageous but not mandatory.

About the Team

The Stores Economics and Sciences team serves as a central scientific resource, supporting Amazon's Retail and Supply Chain leadership. We tackle some of the company's most complex economics and machine learning challenges, with a mandate to create significant business impact.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

PhD in Economics, Computer Science, or a closely related field (Statistics, Finance, Math). 10+ years of experience in industry, consulting, government, or academic research. Proficiency in big data, machine learning, or data science. Coding skills in a scripting language, such as R, Python, or STATA.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in formulating and executing an analytic vision to address business-relevant issues. Proven ability to develop analytic or scientific data products or solutions. Strong written and verbal communication skills to articulate complex processes and systems to business partners and senior leadership. This position is subject to a base pay range of $170,500 - $294,700 annually, depending on the geographic market and job-related skills and experience.
